RUSK COUNTY LAKES AND STREAMS AD HOC COMMITTEE

Nov. 12, 2007 MEETING AGENDA

Monday Nov. 12, 2007, 5:00 p.m.

LOCATION – Law Enforcement Center - County Board Room, 311 Miner Ave East,

            Ladysmith, WI  54848

1)      Approve meeting minutes from Oct. 8th Meeting (Handout)

2)      Chair Report – Bob

3)      Water Quality – Parejko

a.       October sampling completed, sent to Stevens Point.

b.      Lake temperature vs. chlorophyll  – no correlation (-.06%)

c.       Corrected Potato L. averages (incorrect on 10/02/2007 data sheet—Handout)

d.      Flambeau R. upstream & downstream from Flambeau Mine (Handout)

e.       Flambeau R. upstream & downstream from Ladysmith, SWIMS (Handout)

f.       Paleocore Lakes Shoreland Development correlations with P and Chlorophyll (Handout)

4)      Classification

a.       Average vulnerabilities compared with Vulnerability Score 3 based on criteria selected at Sept. meeting (Handout)

Note: Two errors were found in the vulnerability matrix from last month. Chain Lake Shoreline Development Factor had been scored as “3,” should have been “1.” This changes Chain L. vulnerability from “18” to “16.” AND, Boot L. Stratification Factor was scored as “2,” should have been “1.” Total vulnerability for Boot Lake changed from 16 to 15. These are corrected in today’s vulnerabilities.

b.      Completed structures per mile spreadsheet, based on April 26, 2006 aerial photos (update from last month’s draft – Handout)

Note: Vilas County counted all structures on each lake, including garages and boathouses.  This likely explains their higher (up to 30 per mile) values than ours (none higher than 15 per mile) because I counted only houses.

5)      Draft Vulnerability/Development Matrix (Handout)

6)      Rusk County Grant Scope (Handout)

Note: I recommend that next month we begin discussing #3(b) - 4, assessing the existing shoreland ordinance, and potential changes.

7)  Sawyer County Classification Scheme, and # lakes in each category (Handout)

8)  Vilas County Classification Scheme

(Note: At one of your first meetings, Mike Russell provided you with the summary results of the Vilas County Lake Classification project. If you can find them, please bring them with to this meeting. Some copies will be available as a handout.)

9) Data on the DNR SWIMS website is available to everyone. To access it, go to:

http://prodoasjava.dnr.wi.gov/swims

In the upper right enter UserName “read” and password “only” (do not use quotation marks.)

You will probably be interested in the Citizen Lake Monitoring information – so click on that link (which also contains sampling data on rivers such as the Flambeau.)  Then click on “Search Monitoring Data.” The best way to search the site is in “Search Type” to choose “Advanced Search” (last choice) then enter the lake name, under County choose “Rusk,” and submit. This will take you to a list of reports, by date. To see the actual data, click on the icon that looks like a magnifying glass, far left. I’d be willing to help if you need it…parejkok@uwstout.edu or 595-4846.
