LAKES CLASSIFICATION MEETING

MAY 12, 2008

Present: Tom Metnik, Gary Gaier, Arian Knops, Bob Wiltrout, Fred Cook, Phil Schneider, Bob Lorkowski, Bob Nelson, Kathleen Seilheimer, Dale Wozniak, Others present: Ken Parejko and CeCe Tesky.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Wiltrout at 5:00 PM.

1) Cook/Nelson motion to approve the 4/14/08 minutes with the following changes: The motion to approve minutes was made by Gary Gaier. The 6th sentence of the 5th paragraph should read “Ken recommended that the 93% correlation slide be removed from the Power Point.” Motion carried.

2) Chair Report: The sign up sheet for Bob’s BBQ went around – May 22nd @ 5 PM.

3) Public Meeting at our June 9 meeting: Discussion about holding public informational meeting and pubic hearing together. Meeting time should be a little later to accommodate public. Need to talk with Chairman Tatur to find out protocol on the subject matter.

4) Stream Classification: Request to reconsider stream classification. Ken stated there would be two options. 1) Classify all streams into one category OR 2) Classify ORW/ERW and Class I Trout Streams into one category and all others into another. Wozniak/Lorkowski motion to reconsider. Motion carried.

Lorkowski/Gaier motion to classify streams into two categories

1) DNR classified Outstanding Resource Rivers and Streams, Exceptional Resource Rivers and Streams, and Class 1 Trout Streams would be Category 1

2) All other streams and rivers would be Category 2

Motion carried. None opposing.

5) Recommend zoning committee revisit regulations after NR115 is approved: Discussion about the proposed NR115 and how it would affect our current ordinance. Concern by members that NR115 changes may not be adopted for several months or even years and that a recommendation specific to this would be forgotten. Rusk County may not need to change the ordinance much regardless. Only suggestion was to have increased lot sizes for NEW lots. Lorkowski/Wozniak motion to recommend to county board that “On newly created lots only, recommend increasing lot width at the shoreline to a minimum of 150’ along all lakes, rivers and streams and that the county consider more protective regulations for the more vulnerable lakes, rivers and streams.” Schneider abstained. Motion carried. Bob Nelson voted against.

6) Other: There will be a Lake Fair at Lake Wissota State Park on Sunday, June 8. Ken said a few words to remember John Styczinski, Jr.  Phil Schneider asked if the committee could have something on the next agenda relative to the future. Do we want to offer to work with the zoning as a sounding board? Bob Lorkowski discussed the work that the Rusk County Waters Alliance has done with invasive and exotic species and citizen monitoring of water quality.

Lorkowski/Gaier motion to adjourn @ 6:32 PM. Carried.

Next meeting will be June 9th.
