LAKE & STREAM AD HOC COMMITTEE MINUTES

DECEMBER 11, 2006

Lake & Stream Classification Coordinator Mike Russell called the regular meeting of the Lake & Stream Classification Ad Hoc Committee to order at 5:00 P.M. in the Law Enforcement Center at the Rusk County Courthouse. Members present were Jason Gillis, Paul (Tom) Metnik, Bob Nelson, John Stencil, Wayne Pawlak, Fred Cook, Arian Knops, Bob Lorkowski, Kathleen Seilheimer, Dale Wozniak, Gary Gaier, Bob Wiltrout, Jim Engelhardt, Steve Zajec, Phil Schneider, Al Lechleitner and Paula Carow. Excused absent was John Styczynski.

Others present included: Mark Steward - Zoning Administrator, Sheldon Johnson - NWRPC, Kris Tiles - UWEX, Lynn Markham - CLUE, and Al Arnold.

Steward introduced himself, Mike Russell and the partners from NWRPC, UWEX, and CLUE. Then we went around the room and everyone introduced themselves.

Russell began the presentation by outlining his job description and the job duties of the ad hoc committee.

The members posed the question on how to handle waters from other counties and from the city and villages. Markham asked if anyone from the City was invited. Steward answered no. No one was specifically invited, it was open to all. Markham thinks it is a good idea for the committee to bring someone on board from the City, so the committee can express their concerns. The committee should consider testing the water upstream and downstream of the city limits.

The question was asked about who does each individual on the committee represent and how to communicate to those you represent. It was answered that if you represent an interest and if you indicated that interest on the application form, you should report back to them, and gather feedback from the them to present at the committee meetings.

Markham will bring samples of other shoreland management plans to the next meeting. She also suggested that the towns be added to the mailing list.

Wozniak asked if we find contaminants, whom do we notify and do we follow up. We would notify the proper authorities which would be the DNR or Dept. of Health.

The question was posed; can we have subgroups/subcommittees? The answer is yes and their meetings must be posted as well.

The question was also posed; how do we pick and where do we pick to test the soil and water? The answer is the committee decides.

Johnson mentioned that data is available elsewhere from the DNR and Lake Associations.

Russell needs to draft a letter to the city, villages and towns about the ad hoc committee.

The committee will elect a chair and vice chair at the next meeting.

Next meeting is set for January 8, 2007 at 5:00 P.M. in the Law Enforcement Center County Board room.

Meeting adjourned at 6:06 P.M.

Mark Steward, Zoning Administrator
